Canopy Tour & Crocodile River Safari

Add an exhilarating rush to your sightseeing tour with an epic flight through the rainforest canopy. View jungle life from a perspective once reserved for only researchers and photographers. Don’t be shy! More than 1.5 million guests, from kids to seniors, have enjoyed this fun and safe rainforest excursion.

Your friendly, English-speaking guide will be ready and waiting for you at the pier entrance. He or she will then escort you to one of our comfortable, roomy air-conditioned passenger vans. Much awaits you on this approximately 8-hour adventure! The tour price includes all ticket entry fees and lunch costs. Payment is collected when we drop you off at the dock.

Our first encounter with nature will be at a place on our route where we frequently spot White-Faced Capuchin Monkeys in their natural habitat. Within steps of your vehicle, you can snap photos of these cute creatures as they jump, play, and swing through the trees.

Next, we will stop briefly at a local merchant’s roadside fruit market that makes the best smoothies around and we will demonstrate how sugar cane juice is extracted and learn about its many uses and importance in Costa Rica.

The excitement builds as we arrive at the site of The Original Canopy Tour. Your specialized guide will give you a complete gear orientation and safety talk to make sure you’re well prepared. And then you’re off! You’ll glide through the treetops on a binary cable system designed for a secure and quiet experience. Instead of the typical loud “zip” noise associated with this activity, you will be able to hear the sounds of nature instead. After a series of 11 cables with a max height of 50 feet, you will arrive back at the Tarcoles River basin and see large crocodiles basking on the riverbank from the last platform.

Our voyage continues on through the traditional fishing village of Tarcoles where Scarlet Macaws are regularly spotted feeding in the prolific tropical almond trees. You will then depart from the river’s banks and navigate the Tarcoles River by boat, spotting all kinds of wildlife along its banks with the help of a specialized guide. Animals such as egrets, herons, spoonbills, iguanas, Jesus Christ Lizards, crabs, and the famous crocodiles all call this area home. Have your camera ready during this 75-minute educational safari.

You’ll then be treated to a delicious and hearty traditional Costa Rican lunch featuring fresh fish or chicken and local produce. After lunch, you are free to browse artisan wood carvings and other items to remember your time in Costa Rica by at a souvenir shop next door.

After lunch, we’ll take you for a scenic drive that ascends nearly 1000 feet to a vista point over the Tarcoles River Basin and Puntarenas coastline, a great photo stop! And lastly, our final nature encounter will be at the eco-rainforest hotel/park Villa Lapas (meaning Macaw Village). A short walking tour through its lush gardens and over a flowing stream shaded by large historic trees transmits a serene ambiance. The garden includes several exotic fruit trees and attracts some interesting critters.

Back in Puntarenas, we’ll take you on a scenic loop through town to see its downtown area, soccer stadium, Catholic church, lighthouse, ferry terminal and beach-front parkway.

If you want to make the most of your limited time in Costa Rica, this tour really has it all – adventure, education, unique photo opportunities, and a lot of fun! Don’t miss out!
