With a balanced mix of sightseeing and leisure adventure, our award-winning Puntarenas Highlights tour is sure to make your day tour in Puntarenas a very fun and memorable one. In order to confirm this tour, we require a minimum of 14 guests to book. A maximum of 24 guests can travel together. If the minimum guest amount is not reached, we will prorate the tour cost based on the group's size. We group guests in our vehicles together with passengers from the same ship.
*Please note that with limited exceptions this tour is only available from the Puntarenas cruise ship port.
8 AM Your day begins when you are greeted by our friendly staff who will meet you at the cruise dock or hotel. From there, you’ll be transported on a clean, comfortable, air-conditioned tourism vehicle by one of our certified English-speaking guides.
8:15 AM We’ll take you on a loop through town past points of interest.
8:45 AM The first stop will be in an area where we commonly spot the white-faced Capuchin monkeys! After learning interesting information about them from our certified naturalist tour guides we will board the van and travel on the new highway passing by seasonal plantations as your guide entertains you with rich history and facts about our amazing country!
9:30 AM On the way we make a stop at a fresh fruit shop so you can try our locally produced fruits and optionally purchase a delicious smoothie/drink!
10 AM You will visit an area in Tarcoles by the beach where the Scarlet macaws are typically found amongst the almond trees and beach before arriving at the Tarcoles River.
10:30 AM Next is the main event – a fun and educational tour of the Tarcoles river and mangrove area. In addition to having American crocodiles, the river also supports more than 50 species of migratory, native, and coastal birds that can be seen from the comfort of the boat.
12:15 PM Afterwards, enjoy a traditional Costa-Rican-style lunch at Ti-Ko Restaurant, the best restaurant in the area and the only one with a birds-eye view of the Pacific Ocean Coastline. (meal cost is included)
1:30 Looking to buy an authentic Costa Rican souvenir to remind you of your amazing trip to Costa Rica? We will visit a shop that has it all at the best prices.
2:30 A quick stop at the local market to purchase any local spirits, coffee, or goods before arriving back at the ship.
3:30 PM Drop-off is by the cruise ship pier of Puntarenas.
